GOVERNMENT
– OLD AND NEW
July 2000 article by
Norman Phillips
Well, another month has
passed. Has it been good for you? If your answer is ‘yes’ then you are indeed
one of the fortunate ones. In this country
and in most countries throughout the world trials and tribulations continue to
abound, and does anyone care?
Just a short while ago we
saw the collapse of the banking industry.
Thousands of people lost their homes and savings due to the recklessness
of speculative and irresponsible investments which offered huge financial
rewards to advisers and banking executives.
The banks, however, were bailed out by massive Government investment – taxpayers’
money. So then, has the money been used
to help people with mortgages, or loans to businesses which rely on cash
flow? It appears not. Mortgages are still hard to come by to the
general public and businesses are closing down when they need the help. Manufacturers such as LDV and Corus iron and
steel producers are shedding thousands of jobs and yet the bankers seem quite
happy to pay themselves large salaries and bonuses just as before which seems
to us an attitude of irresponsibility.
Can things get worse? Yes they can.
Due to the Freedom of Information Act it has been revealed that our
MP’s, both government and opposition, have been embroiled in falsely claiming
thousands of pounds in the expenses claims.
They seem to find it difficult to accept they they are doing wrong. One retiring MP declared ‘I don’t care’ –
hardly the right attitude for one elected to help in the complex running of the
country. However, a General Election is
due next year – a change of government perhaps which may be for the
better. Not so, I am afraid. Their corrupt practices have led to a rise in
extremist factions gaining seats in the EU and local elections. Surely the only members who should retain
their jobs and credibility are those who have been able to resist the
corruption.
Thankfully however, there
will be a change of government soon, and I have already cast my vote for
it. It will be a world government, free
from the corruptions of man. Its
manifesto has been set out for thousands of years. It has not changed and was delivered once for
all without lies. There are events which
it forecast would happen, known as prophecy, and these prophecies have come
true with uncanny accuracy. There are
however some prophecies yet to be fulfilled.
We can take these future prophecies on trust knowing they will be
fulfilled exactly as predicted because they are the word of God and His word
can be found in the Holy Bible. God has
promised a new world order which will be ruled by His Son, our saviour Jesus
Christ. You and I can be part of
it. How?
By searching the scriptures.
Jesus said in John 14 v6 – ‘I am the Way,
the Truth and the Life’. In John
3 v 15 we read – ‘That whosoever believeth in Him
should be perish but have eternal life’.
Read for yourself from the
Bible (Revelation 21 vs 1-5) what God has promised – a new order on earth. What will it be like? We can read about it in Isaiah 11 vs 1-9, and
Isaiah chapter 35.
Micah 4 vs 1-5 says: ‘In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains. It will be raised above the hills and the people will stream into it. Many nations will come and say ‘Come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways so that we may walk in His paths’. The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He will judge between many peoples and will settle disputes for the strong nations far and wide. They will beat their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation nor will they train for war any more. Every man will sit under his own vine and under his fig tree. No-one will make them afraid for the Lord Almighty has spoken’.
How to be a part of
it? Read the Bible and start taking
steps towards a better life to come. The
first step is baptism into the saving name of the Lord Jesus. There are many references relating to this –
