GOD’S  MANIFESTO

May 2005 article by Norman Phillips

Here we go again – the time to elect a new government is almost upon us and as sure as the buds of life spring forth on the trees, and hibernating animals awake to a new dawning, so will our politicians emerge from their burrows which nestle protectively in the confines of Westminster.  Smiling, unfamiliar faces (for we do not see too much of them) will be dashing about canvassing for votes, especially in those marginal seats.  They will be declaring their party’s manifesto, telling us how much better our lives are going to be by voting for them.  However, we know better.  Promises, promises, promises which, just like pie crusts, are easily broken.

So concerned with the low voting turnout, a postal system of voting has been engineered which has appeared to be open to fraud.  The politicians claim that it is the apathy of voters that causes low voting numbers, but it is more likely to be a lack of trust, and sometimes anger or despair that has led to low voting numbers.

One thing is certain however.  Whichever party is elected will ensure that their salaries, expenses, working schedules and holidays will be well catered for and no doubt there will still be occasions of sleaze and corruption.  Some hard-working people despair of the antics of many politicians and often the question is asked – Is there anyone we can trust?

Well yes, there is.  Why not put your trust in God and His Son, Jesus.  God has set forth His manifesto, the Bible.  He chose certain men to prophesy of events which would come to pass while man lives upon God’s created earth.  The Bible tells us that “Holy men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit”.  Most of these prophecies have been fulfilled and can be confirmed by comparing Bible prophecy with historical events.  But what of the prophecies yet to be fulfilled?

Because of man’s inability to abide by God’s laws, God has promised to overturn man’s rule on earth.  To do this, He will return His Son, Jesus to the earth and after a period of great change Jesus will emerge as King and peace and righteousness will prevail.  Revelation chapter 21 v 4 tells us that “there will be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, nor any more pain for the former things are passed away”.  Isaiah chapter 11 verse 67 tells us that wild animals and domestic animals will feed together and will be cared for by a child.  Read Isaiah chapter 11 verses 1-10.

When will this happen you may ask?  The disciples of Jesus asked the same question.  Jesus answered “of the day and the hour knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven, but only my Father” (God).  This is found in Matthew chapter 24 v 36.  Scripture, however, gives us a clue of the impending return of Jesus.  Matthew continues in verses 37 and 38 – as in the days of Noah, so shall the coming of Jesus be and goes on to explain what people were doing then – just the same as we are today!

The second book of Timothy, chapter 3 verses 1-9 tells us of the last days of man’s rule on earth before the return of Jesus.  Read it for yourself and then ask yourself if it describes the age we are living in.  It can only be concluded that yes, it does.

So you have a choice – there is a better world to come and you can be part it.  Accept God’s manifesto, one we can trust, before it’s too late.
