The Lord’s Return and the Days of
Noah
It is a sad thing that so many in our western world have lost the understanding that the Bible is the Word of God. God has moved many men over the centuries of time to write down and record those things that God would have us know, understand and believe. In the Bible God sets out for us the great acts of creation. He records for us His dealings with individual men and women; how He established His relationship with Israel and gave them a law and ordinances to guide their secular and religious life.
He promised His people that a Saviour would come to them who would be their King and now only that but would also be the King of all the earth. When Jesus Christ (the Saviour) was born, the first part of this amazing prophecy was fulfilled. He grew up and lived among His people and taught them the ways of God. Some accepted Him, others rejected Him, as many do now. The world waits for Jesus to return to this earth to re-establish upon it God’s Kingdom and to rule over it with the help of His called-out ones.
It is a remarkable thing that Jesus informed His disciples of specific signs that would be observable in the earth, that would indicate the time of His second coming and the great judgments of God upon the earth. He tells us in Luke chapter 21 verses 25-28 how nations would be distressed, the sea of nations roaring, men’s hearts failing them for fear and at that time the Son of Man (Jesus) coming in great glory.
Jesus tells us of another sign of our days that many people have been affected by - that is the sign of violence. In Matthew 24 verses 36-42 He informs us that we do not know the specific day or hour of His return but that the days would be just like the days of Noah. The earth then was filled with violence and God destroyed that age by a flood and only His servant Noah and his family were saved. So Jesus tells us that the things that were written in Genesis chapters 6, 7 and 8 He believed. He told us that violence in the earth would be a sign and an indication of the nearness of His return. The media of our age informs us every day that the whole of our world is filled with violence of one form or another.
If you never open God’s word and read what God would have us know – His guidance and instructions - the great and precious promises that God has made to all mankind will remain unknown to you. How sad that in the Day of Judgment when we stand before the Judge of all the earth (Acts 17 verse 31) He might say to us “I never knew you”. (Matthew 7 verses 22-23).
Open and read the Bible for in its message of God to us, the offer of everlasting life is made. What a sad thing it would be if we did not take advantage of this wonderful offer by failing to open the scriptures and understand those things that God would have us know.
