Is There Any Good News?
Everyday we seem to wake up to bad
news, whether it be in newspapers, on the TV or on the Internet. We hear of problems in the NHS, the chaotic
transport situation, illegal immigration, our involvement in the Iraq war,
rising crime rate, the sleaze allegations of some MP’s and the high taxes we
pay. People have become so disillusioned with continual failings and
unfulfilled promises of the current government. Does this mean that with the
newly formed party (UKIP) things will get better? Well unfortunately the bad
news is that they will not.
Further proposals by the
government have been made to allow 24 hour licensing to public houses to add to
the problems of drunkenness on the streets, causing more crime and violence.
The proposed legalization of prostitution, and the escalating drug problems,
all add problems to the NHS, which is already on its back foot, and these
problems aren’t just relevant to this country, they are worldwide.
At present there are over 50
separate wars going on, and whilst millions of pounds are being spent on new
and more complex weapons, thousands of people are dying in famines, pestilences
and of course war. The evidence is there before us; man with all his knowledge,
new technology and sophistication cannot cope, things are rapidly going out of
control, the population of this world can’t live in peace one with another. The
reason for this is the weakness that is in man’s nature and the unrighteous
leaders that we have in the world.
The holy inspired word of the
Bible points us to the main faults in our nature, which is the root cause of
our troubles. The heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately
wicked we are told in Jeremiah 17:9, and 1 John 2:16:
“For all that is in the world,
the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of
the world.
So is there any hope? Well yes,
God has promised to return His Son, Jesus Christ, back to this earth to set up
a Kingdom that will never cease and where peace and righteousness shall
prevail. We as Christadelphians believe we are now in the last days as the
evidence of the things around us in the world today fit perfectly into what is
said in 2 Timothy: 3. It describes the situation of the world just before the
return of the Lord Jesus Christ. Zechariah: 14 tells us of the tribulations
that will occur, that all nations shall be drawn to battle, and it is our
Saviour, Jesus Christ who shall conquer and set up his everlasting kingdom. You
can be part of that kingdom by seeking out the scriptures and being baptized
into his saving name.
