WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
The Bible - what’s it all about? Why in this day and age are we so fascinated
by it and intrigued by the things contained inside? Some would say that it’s just a history book
about the Jews; others may claim it’s a book about moral guidance or a book of
laws (does and don’ts). A large part of it concentrates on a man who claims to
be the son of GOD, as well as some parts of it tell us about the future. There
are many little sub headings which we could give to describe parts or sections
of the Bible, and what people believe it to be about.
Whatever part of this book we look at or
turn to we find that ultimately it’s all about GOD and his relationship with
his creation and, in particular, man.
Man was created in the image of GOD we
are told, which I would understand to mean that we look something like He does.
We are also told that He gave man rule over all his creation, but he gave him
one restriction, which he failed to keep and so man was punished.
GOD has always looked for a relationship
with man and in that relationship he seeks obedience, but man has always been
disobedient. Look at the time of Noah.
GOD destroyed the world by flood because of man’s wickedness. Afterwards
He chose a particular nation in which he saw the possibility of that one nation
being obedient, a nation whom He could meet with; he could be their GOD and
they could be His people, but thy disobeyed him time and time again.
GOD through His spirit power has a son,
who explained to them the purpose of his Father but once more man does not
listen and kills Him. This son GOD has raised from the dead to become the
saviour of man. It is in, and through Him, the Bible tells us, that we who live
today have our hope - the hope of eternal life in GOD’S kingdom which is to be
set up upon this earth. This GOD has
promised, if only we are prepared to be obedient to His will, to read this very
important book with an open mind. With
the help of prayerful study, we can all come to an understanding of GOD’S
purpose.
It is my understanding that GOD still
wishes to have this obedient relationship with His creation (man), which is why
he has left His will and intentions for us to read in the Bible, which
ultimately answers the question - what’s it all about?
